“[Spaced repetition is] extraordinarily efficient. In a four-month period, practicing for 30 minutes a day, you can expect to learn and retain 3600 flash cards with 90 to 95 percent accuracy. These flash cards can teach you an alphabet, vocabulary, grammar, and even pronunciation. And they can do it without becoming tedious, because they’re always challenging enough to remain interesting and fun.”
- Gabriel Wyner in Fluent Forever
“One value of flash cards is that they can be randomized easily, by shuffling them. The words will then come up unexpectedly, by chance. Suppose…you could “program” the cards so that each word came up at just the right moment to ensure the longest retention with the fewest exposures? Such a program would be worth a lot, for it would reduce your study time to a minimum while virtually guaranteeing maximum retention.”
- Paul Pimsleur Ph.D. in How to Learn a Foreign Language
Pick what you want to include as part of your flash card deck. We currently support Hiragana, Katakana, GENKI I, GENKI II and a frequency list of 5000 words.
Every day, we add 30 words to your list from your selected curriculum in the order you learn it in the textbook. You can always add more after you’re done.
You can quickly flip through the new cards, or any other cards to start building your familiarity for the cards in our review module.
We customize a test for you with every word that’s scheduled for today for recognition and recall. You're done when you get every card right at least once.
If you get a card right, it moves up a level. If you get it wrong, it moves all the way down to Level 1. You get three attempts in case of typos and synonyms.
We schedule the cards in your deck based on the level for each word and when you last saw it. The higher the level, the less frequently it will show up.
