February Update: Mark as Correct
Since our last update, we’ve gotten some great feedback from Reddit again and implemented a few new features into リピート.
More Verbs: We’re now up to 1450 verbs, which includes almost all the verbs that are available within our vocabulary database. It’s by no means an exhaustive list, but we’ll be reviewing our list and seeing if there are any gaps using a few more sources like the Hiroo Japanese Center's 600 Basic Japanese Verbs and Kodansha’s The Handbook of Japanese Verbs book for our next update.
Email Settings: We’ve built in a more granular email settings, so you can manage what emails you receive from us. You can find these toggles in your user settings.
Test Settings: Some of our users want to practice their Kanji and hiragana recognition while doing their review, so we now allow you to turn that off in your user settings. By default, it’s turned on.
We’ve also allowed the option to remove all ‘sentences’ – we count complete sentences as sentences, and incomplete sentences as expressions – because we find that matching full sentences simply has too many variations to be effective in a flash card format for some people.
Mark as Correct: In the past, we’ve used ‘Report an Error’ to fix any mistakes or make any additions to our vocabulary database. We’ve gotten a lot of feedback that users would simply like to make corrections themselves, and so we’ve built in a mark as correct functionality for users.
When you press this button (which shows up with any ‘error’ messages), it simply adds the answer to our list of acceptable answers. We trust our users will not abuse this, and allow us to crowdsource definitions more efficiently. We’ll review the additions frequently to remove any errors.
Right now, this is only a one-sided functionality. You can mark English translations correct, but not add more Japanese answers to an English card. Since all of our data is based on the Japanese vocabulary, we’re trying to figure out how to implement a similar functionality the other way around.
We’re always trying to improve リピート, so please let us know your thoughts. We’re still plodding ahead with our plans for the year, so look forward to more updates!
