Updates on October 14, 2016.
Thank you for all of your support so far. We have already have more than 125 users signed up in this small beta launch on reddit. We hope to add more of the functionality you want quickly to make this a better tool for all Japanese learners.
We added a few updates based on your suggestions over the past week:
Crash Fix on Curriculum Page: /u/armincerf helped us identify an error in our Curriculum page that occurred when nothing from the GENKI section was selected. We fixed this last Friday. Thank you, Armin!
Error Reporting Function: A few people emailed and messaged me with a few typo fixes and suggested adding an error reporting function. There is now an Error Reporting input at the bottom of every card, where you can submit either fixes or suggestions for each card.
Automatic input method for hiragana / katakana: /u/armincerf also suggested adding a built-in IME for the input box. We added this functionality to all input ‘recall’ cards that require you to respond to Japanese. All the credit to Mims H. Wright and the team at Tofugu for WanaKana.js (http://wanakana.com), which was used to implement this. If you’re using your own Japanese IME with Kanji support, it should still work as normal.
Blog Comments Section: We added a Disqus comments section for each post on the blog so we can capture your suggestions and engage with our users better. Try it out!
Input Box Change: /u/weab00 suggested changing the input box so that it doesn't accept empty input. This has been implemented.
Font Support for Windows & Other: I thought the default font was available on all operating systems, but unfortunately, it was only actually compatible for Apple devices using OSX / iOS. I’ve added a Google’s new Noto Sans font for everyone else.
Question: What do you feel about getting email reminders to practice? We never want to be spamming your inbox, but do you think they’ll help you keep up your habit?
Please feel free to leave comments, message me on reddit at /u/explour, or email me at hello@ripiito.com for any more feedback.
We’re aiming to have GENKI II up next week!
